Pea Shoots

These have been a recent discovery and my first gardening project this year. A very happy discovery indeed. Apparently one can plant pea seeds and eat the shoots as salad, in sandwiches or in stir-fries. I've yet to try the latter but I've already decided these are delicious in sandwiches and salads.

They taste like fresh peas.  Like spring...

I bought some clementines that came in this black box. I put a piece of weed fabric on the button and filled it with some potting soil. The soaked pea pods where spread on top and covered with a bit of dirt. Two weeks later fresh peas shoots!
Simple salad: pea shoots, tomatoes, a can of tune (not pictured) with a lemon & olive oil dressing.

Last Year (2013)

Last year we moved into our new home. There was some effort on my part to make the terrace green (I was thinking the hanging garden of Babel). After what felt like a lot of work and money, I ended up filling one tiny corner of it.

When we moved in.
Planting some lettuce that eventually became a feast for aphids
Tomato, summer squash and cucumbers in their itsy bitsy containers. What was I thinking?
The oregano ended burning in the sun. 12 hours straight sun was for some reason too much?

The lettuce did very well. The tomatoes, cucumber and summer squash
were planted in way-too-small containers and kept drying out in the blazing sun.
This will be rectified this year with much larger containers (50 and 60 cm wide).
